Panathinaikos owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos made the following statement following the loss of his team to Real Madrid in Game 1 of the EuroLeague playoffs:
“As it seems, we’ll have to play much better than Real Madrid to take the win. I have great faith in the team. On Friday, we’ll leave Madrid as winners.”
Panathinaikos was defeated after coming back from a 14-point deficit and even getting a six-point lead down the stretch. Rick Pitino’s players though went scoreless in the last four minutes and now Real is 1-0 in the best-of-five series.
