Fenerbahce Beko coach Zeljko Obradovic admitted that the dominant fashion in which his players crushed Zalgiris Kaunas (76 – 43) was a surprise even to him.
“No, definitely I was not expecting it,” Obradovic said in the post-game presser.
Fenerbahce finished the EuroLeague regular season as the top defensive team in the competition. Against Zalgiris, the Turkish squad took it to another level since their opponents had their lowest-scoring game in EuroLeague’s modern (post-2000) era.
“This is not a normal result, but sometimes things like this happen. And tonight, it was a game like that. Zalgiris is a team with very talented players,” Obradovic commented.
And this is why Zoc expects his players to stay vigilant ahead of Game 2 despite the Game 1 margin. “The difference does not matter, it is important that is 1-0. I told my players, it can be a 1, 11 or 20 point-difference, it is all the same. It is just 1-0, we have to forget this to prepare ourselves tomorrow because Zalgiris will play a different game on Thursday.
