Janis Timma is currently playing with Khimki Moscow on loan from Olympiacos Piraeus. While the deal between the two clubs was for the Timma to be loaned until the remainder of the season, the player may continue with Khimki in 2019-2020.
According to Russian website Invezstia, a source close to the player’s said that “Timma’s priority is to stay with Khimki”. However, it will all come down to the team’s results at the end of the season and whether Khimki will advance to the 2019-2020 EuroLeague.
Khimki will play in next season’s EuroLeague if they win the VTB League, or if they advance to the Final and CSKA Moscow is the other finalist.
Invezstia also reports that apart from Khimki’s participation in EuroLeague the other factor that will play a big part in Timma staying with the team is David Blatt’s future with Olympiacos. If the “Reds” proceed with Blatt in the next season then Timma will have an extra reason to continue with Khimki since he believes that the American/Israeli coach never gave him the opportunities he deserved.
Timma, 26, averaged 11:31 minutes in the EuroLeague this season. Since he arrived with Khimki, he’s been playing 22:48 minutes per game and averaging 17.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists.
“He’s a strong player who fits perfectly with our system,” Khimki GM Pavel Astakhov said to Invezstia. “Of course we would like him to stay the next season and we will do everything that depends on us to achieve this.”
