Paris and the revamped AccorHotels Arena is expected to be the site of the 2020 EuroLeague Final Four, according to “L’Equipe“. The French capital had hosted the event in 2010 and also in 1996 and 2001.
The Greek capital, Athens, had an agreement in place in order to host the event, but the financial guarantees from the Greek authorities were never provided to the EuroLeague since it’s an election year in Greece – the elections are expected to be held in October – and a new government may be in place in 2020.
According to “L’Equipe”, Athens is “off course” for 2020 and Paris is negotiating either for 2020 or 2021. It has to be noted that Athens is also a candidate if not for 2020 then for 2021 and also Kaunas is a possible contender for hosting the event.
It remains to be seen how the negotiations between all sides involved will end up. Still, Paris at this point is the main favorite for 2020.
