VITORIA-GASTEIZ– The last time an Australian player won the EuroLeague was in 2014 when Joe Ingles lifted the trophy as a player of Maccabi Tel Aviv.
Now, Anadolu Efes forward Brock Motum has the opportunity to succeed the current Utah Jazz wing, by claiming the title Sunday (19/5). With Ingles and another Australian former EuroLeague champ’s blessing.
“He [Joe Ingles] messaged me yesterday and wished me luck. Along with David Andersen,” Motum told Eurohoops. “It’s great to have good Aussie support behind me.”
Andersen won the EuroLeague in 2001 with Kinder Bologna and in 2006 and 2008 with CSKA Moscow. The team that Motum will look to beat in the Final.
“It will be great being mentioned with those great EuroLeague names,” Motum said ahead of the championship game against the “Army Men.”
It will be Motum’s first EuroLeague Final. So he’s filled with a mix of emotions, like nervousness, anxiousness and definitely excitement.
“A little bit of everything,” Motum said to Eurohoops. “It’s a new thing for all of us to be in this situation. Especially against a great quality opponent like CSKA. But you can’t think too much of these things. You got to focus on the game like we got all year. Let the result take care of itself.”
“As long as we fight. This will be the main thing,” Motum added.
