Barcelona head coach Svetislav Pesic wants to see Chris Singleton staying with the team in the upcoming season. However, this doesn’t mean that the club will keep Singleton on board, unless he makes a certain compromise.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Pesic considers Singleton important enough for the squad that he has asked for his contract to be renewed. Barcelona may be willing to sign Singleton to a new deal only if the player accepts a “significant” salary reduction.
Singleton is currently the highest-paid Barcelona player, earning a net salary of 1.8M. euros.
It’s also questionable whether Pesic will be coaching Barcelona next season and this plays an important part in Singleton’s future with the team. The Serbian veteran coach has an offer to stay in the next season but he has yet to give an answer to the club.
Singleton, 29, signed a one-year contract with Barcelona last summer. The American forward/center finished the 2018-2019 EuroLeague season by averaging 8.0 points, 4.4 rebounds and 1.1 steals over 24:58 minutes in 35 EuroLeague games. Barcelona returned to the competition’s playoffs after a two-year absence.
