Partizan NIS coach Andrea Trinchieri held a class at the Faculty of Sport, University Union – Nikola Tesla, and shared many of his views and experiences he got throughout his coaching career.
Trinchieri was also asked who is the best ‘pick and roll player’ he had a chance to coach and he chose Vassilis Spanoulis while also praising his mental toughness: “Vassilis Spanoulis. He may not be the most talented but I’ve never seen a mentally stronger player. Well, I didn’t have a chance to coach Sasa Danilovic. Spanoulis can shoot eight horrible balls, and then hit the ninth, the most important one. He’s not hurt by any misses, he only thinks about how to hit the next one”, the coach said before sharing a few words on the pick ‘n’ roll itself.
“Pick ‘n’ roll is very important, I’ve built half of my career on it but it’s not the same now. Now, there is various software which can show how much each system is being played. So, for example, pick ‘n’ roll is played 25 percent of the time in EuroLeague. Then teams work a lot more on defending that type of offense. The defense has changed and improved a lot in the past ten years”, he said, per Sportklub.
Trinchieri worked with Spanoulis for a short while when he coached the Greek national team back in 2013-14.
