Former EuroLeague champion and First Team selection Giannis Bourousis said that he will look towards continuing his career in Europe and Spain. A country he likes.
In a Facebook Live video interview with Eurohoops Greece (together with former Olympiacos and Greek national team teammate Panagiotis Vassilopoulos), Bourousis described the reasons he won’t play in China next season and his thoughts about a return to Europe.
“In China, the contract situation has changed. Every team has a right to replace a player every two months,” Bourousis said. “You may sign a 10-month contract, and if the team doesn’t make the playoffs, you don’t get paid for two months. And every two months, the team has a right to replace you.”
“Under these circumstances, I will look to play in Europe. I can’t go back to Greece because I don’t have any offer. I will look to [play in] Spain, a country I like,” Bourousis also mentioned.
Bourousis played for Real Madrid from 2013 to 2015. He won the EuroLeague with the “Blancos” in the latter season. The Greek center then joined Baskonia for 2015-2016 and led the team to the EuroLeague Final Four for the first time since 2007 while being named to the All-EuroLeague First Team.
“I had an amazing time with Baskonia,” Bourousis had previously answered when asked if his season with Baskonia was the best of his career so far. “I love them and really appreciate them. If they made me an offer, I would seriously consider it.”
