Vaggelis Liolios, the owner of Promitheas Patras, is aiming more than high for the near future. With Olympiacos out of the Greek league playoffs, Promitheas is competing in the Greek league finals.
And according to Liolios, this is only the start. As he said at COSMOTE TV’s weekly show “Pick and Roll”: “We will win the Greek league title by 2021 and we will play in the EuroLeague by 2023”.
Liolios elaborated without confirming that the team will play next season in the 7DAYS EuroCup, which is the only EuroLeague path for a Greek team not named Olympiacos or Panathinaikos: “The European basketball is divided and this is something that we don’t want to get into. I still believe that this division will not last for much longer”.
Promitheas has reached the round of 16 in this season Basketball Champions League, which was also the first ever season of the club in a European competition.
“This was our best experience so far and what we have learned, especially from German clubs, is that if you aim at something and you have a method, you will succeed”, said Liolios. “However the best thing is to take different elements that suit you and create something yours. I like the organization and the atmosphere in Germany, I like the mentality of Barcelona on the gym, the model of Brose Bamberg and on the court, the great Yugoplastica”.
