Pablo Laso has one year left on his contract and an NBA exit clause this summer and although there hasn’t been any negotiation for the renewal yet, there’s no doubt that Real Madrid would like the keep the coach who led them in one of the most successful stretches in club history.
Real Madrid‘s director of the basketball section Juan Carlos Sanchez confirmed that: “Laso, and I’m tired of saying it, will be in Madrid as long as he wants. We won’t have a coach like him, who gave us so much. He’s the history of this club and a legend, as is the team. I predict him a long future here”, he said, per AS.
He also shortly commented on the reported NBA interest in Facundo Campazzo: “Facu is a Madridista and he will stay for many years. I think me saying that is enough.”
Laso himself also noted that he doesn’t look too far ahead in planning his future and has been very proud of his accomplishments so far: “I’m glad he said that. My future? I don’t look too far ahead, that’s the way I am, that’s why I feel more proud of the road than of the titles, although I am happy with the 17 trophies as well. I’ve been here eight years, two legislatures, and some politicians would say it’s enough but I’m not a politician, I’m a coach.”
Laso has led Real Madrid to 17 trophies in eight years (since 2011): two Euroleague titles, one Copa Intercontinental, five Spanish league titles, five Spanish Cups and four Super Cups.
