The new Turkish Airlines EuroLeague license allocation model means no direct connections to any domestic league but ABA League has also been given priority over one of the three annual wildcards.
Priority doesn’t fully guarantee a spot but ABA League Vice President Domagoj Cavlovic – who attended the ECA Shareholders meeting – noted that the league champion will have a place in EuroLeague the following two seasons:
“In the following two seasons, ABA League champion will have a place in the EuroLeague. EuroLeague has made several changes, including the change in license allocation criteria. According to the new rules, there is no more Domestic League access to the EuroLeague, however, ABA League has received guarantees that it will have a place in the EuroLeague through one of the three wild cards which will be allocated every year. Now, it is our task to take ABA League to an even higher level by working together. We need to justify the trust of the EuroLeague and to try to secure an even better status for our clubs.”
