In a long interview at “SDNA“, Manos Papadopoulos talked not only about Vassilis Spanoulis but also about the former coach of the club Zeljko Obradovic and former player Sarunas Jasikevicius.
Papadopoulos who has been with the team for 30 years, being the right hand of the Giannakopoulos family was asked if Panathinaikos tried to get this summer either Obradovic or Jasikevicius to coach the team.
Papadopoulos mentioned that coach Argiris Pedoulakis was a conscious choice and the right man for the job, but also explained: “I don’t want to say if there was an effort to bring Obradovic or Jasikevicius. What I can say is that some things can’t be done. It’s not possible. You can try to do something, where there’s a contract with no opt-out clauses. If they were free agents, we would make our effort. But for those specific persons, the “effort” is something different. We have such a great personal relationship, we always talk and we are friends. They belong and they will always be part of the Panathinaikos family. And I want to believe that both of them will return to Panathinaikos. I don’t know in what capacity. They are close to Panathinaikos, but the fans can’t ask for something that can’t be done”.
