Virtus Bologna has “booked” a wild card for the 2020-2021 EuroLeague according to Italian newspaper La Gazzetta Dello Sport (per Bologna Basket).
According to the new EuroLeague allocating criteria, three annual wild cards will be given to three clubs to participate in the competition in 2020-2021. If Bologna becomes one of those teams, they will return to EuroLeague for the first time since 2007 – 2008.
Bologna won the EuroLeague in 1998 and 2001, under current Olimpia Milano coach Ettore Messina. The Italian club will compete in EuroCup next season, apart from the Italian League.
This offseason Bologna completed one of the biggest blockbuster signings in Europe by acquiring Serbian superstar guard, former EuroLeague MVP, champion and First Team member Milos Teodosic. The reigning Basketball Champions League champion also signed such players as Serbian guard Stefan Markovic and former BCL champ and Star Lineup center Vince Hunter. They will be coached by Serbian national team coach Sasha Djordjevic.
“The Euroleague is another of the reasons I am here. I believe that this club must be part of this competition,” Teodosic had said during his official presentation as a Bologna player.
