Zenit Saint-Petersburg further improved its EuroLeague squad by adding Will Thomas, the Russian side announced on Wednesday confirming previous reports on the deal. The 33-year-old American forward previously played in EuroLeague’s premier competition with Unicaja Malaga and Valencia.
“I am happy to have the opportunity to play for Zenit. My family is happy also” the George Mason alumni noted upon signing his two-year contract and added: “I can not wait to finally begin the training camp for the upcoming season.”
Last year, Thomas guided Valencia to EuroCup’s very top earning the Finals MVP honors. Over a total of 23 games he posted 11.8 points, 3.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists per appearance.
Stints in Belgium and Georgia early in his professional career led him to Turkey and Italy, before he made his way to Spain and the ACB. Thomas is now set for his VTB United League debut.
Zenit previously added Gustavo Ayon, signed Alex Renfroe, Andrew Albicy, Colton Iverson, Mateusz Ponitka, Anton Ponkrashov, Austin Hollins, Andrey Zubkov, Dmitry Khvostov and Tim Abromaitis as well. The Russian side also kept Vladislav Trushkin, Anton Pushkov and Sergey Balashov.
