With many few faces and also key absences due to the FIBA World Cup, the 2019-20 pre-season started today for Olympiacos with coach David Blatt and the players meeting the press.

Of course, David Blatt after his recent open letter about his battle with PPMS was the center of interest and he didn’t hesitate to talk about his condition:  “You hit the nail right on the head. That was my goal; I wanted to send a message of hope to people who are dealing with such issues. They need to fight and continue to move forward and move on with their lives. I can’t but think the Elton John song. I’m still standing! I’m fine! It’s a message for everyone. We must do what we can to help those in need in a positive way. We can pass messages”.

About the new season, he added: “The good news is that it’s an opportunity for us to come back after the bad finish last year and become a successful team that relates to Olympiacos’ tradition.”

Blatt also addressed the issue of Olympiacos competing only in the EuroLeague and not in any domestic leagues: “It’s a great question, but I don’t have the perfect answer. It’s something new. There will be more time to prepare and rest. We’ll use it properly and see how it all will work out throughout the year”.

“Coach Blatt is an example for everyone who fights to do what they love without quitting,” stated captain Vassilis Spanoulis when asked about David Blatt and his condition.
