The 2nd Pavlos Giannakopoulos Tournament kicked off today (21/9) in Athens and in front of the clash between Panathinaikos OPAP and Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, a ceremony was held as Thanasis Giannakopoulos’ banner was lifted to the roof.
Thanasis had been co-owner and co-president of Panathinaikos at the side of his brother Pavlos. All four teams participating in the tournament paid their respect as did the 15,000 fans.
“He will be missed and he will always be on my mind, we spend 10 great years together”, said Zeljko Obradovic about the former president of Panathinaikos. The Greens also honored Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv president Simon Mizrahi for being for 50 years the president of the Israeli club.
