Derrick Williams remained on the court for the entirety of the game vs. Real Madrid in his first EuroLeague contest with Fenerbahce, exiting with 19 points and 10 rebounds. The Turkish club eventually suffered defeat, though Williams is determined to do whatever it takes to help his team, even if he has to play for 40 minutes again and again.
“It’s going to be easier when Jan Vesely and Joffrey return. If the coach wants me to play for 40 minutes, I’m ready to do whatever he says. I have prepared myself accordingly already in the pre-season,” he told Fenerbahce TV after the game.
Williams becomes the second player in a team coached by Zeljko Obradovic to remain exactly 40 minutes on the court, following Jaka Lakovic who also spent 40 minutes in at a Panathinaikos game vs. TAU Ceramica in the 2004-05 season, as noted by Walla’s Arale Weisberg.
