Olympiacos Piraeus has contacted Scott Skiles for the team’s vacant head coach post, his player’s agent Keith Glass told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski. The Greek club parted ways with coach David Blatt Sunday.
Skiles last coached the Orlando Magic in 2016. Coaching “still interests him”, per his agent. The 54-year-old Skiles actually began his coaching career in Greece with PAOK Thessaloniki in 1996 – 1997. He had initially joined the team as a player but halfway through the season, he was offered the head coach job, which he accepted.
After PAOK, Skiles served as an assistant with the Phoenix Suns until beginning a head coach career in the NBA, first with the Suns and then with the Chicago Bulls, Milwaukee Bucks and the Magic.
Skiles is the NBA record-holder for registering the most assists in a single game, with 30.
Olympiacos’ contact with Skiles was first reported by Greek newspaper Live Sport.
