CSKA Moscow outlasted tough FC Bayern Munich at home and grabbed its second victory into this EuroLeague season by 79-68.
“I am happy that we stepped up and kind of showed good character on both ends, offensively and defensively. This is actually our target right now. Early on the season, we are building something. We are building our character, some bonds that we will need afterward. When I say bonds, I am talking about basketball bonds, defensively and offensively. Of course, we had our lapses and we tried to cut them, but I think that today we did a pretty good job“, commented Dimitris Itoudis after the game.
Will Clyburn put on an excellent performance on all ends of the court, more than the stats sheet can show. His presence in the final period was catalytic for the Army team, as he exited the game with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Α three-pointer by Mike James that lifted the deficit to 17 points in the middle of the fourth period signaled the victory for the hosts, as Bayern was short on time to recover and get back in the game.
Bayern did its part in being competitive for most of the contest, coming back in the second half with a partial 6-0 run and making it a two-point game in the middle of the third period, though the hosts found the opportunity to get back in the lead with 60-50 heading to the fourth.
Notably, another double-double apart from Voigtmann’s was recorded tonight, as Greg Monroe finished the game with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
Still, the result for the German team was their first defeat of the season (1-1).
Before the start of the game in Moscow, EuroLeague CEO Jordi Bertomeu honored Dimitris Itoudis, the man behind CSKA‘s two recent EuroLeague trophies.
