Olympiacos got an impressive win over Valencia, Lithuanian Kestutis Kemzura is the interim coach of the Greek team and he didn’t forget former head coach David Blatt.
Kemzura, who is replacing Blatt for the moment, said right after the game: “I want to dedicate this win to a great coach and great person, David Blatt. It’s an honor that I can call him my friend. This victory is for him”.
Blatt was replaced after the first official game of the season and Kemzura talked on the matter recently, admitting that it was a shocking decision by Olympiacos.
It’s worth noting that Kemzura remains a candidate to sit on the bench of Olympiacos until the end of the season, despite the fact that Olympiacos is on the market for a head coach and even contacted Scott Skiles.
Speaking about the game, coach Kemzura added: “We came with this approach [that this was the most important game of the season]. It worked well. I think every EuroLeague game will be like this. If we can manage to come into every game with this mindset, I think we can be good. I really want to congratulate my players. They did a great job. The first half was amazing. It was really amazing. Spanoulis was amazing. Milutinov … everybody. I don’t want to pick out anybody. Everybody who stepped in did his part. It’s not only about the points. We moved the ball well and we played aggressive defense. But we cannot relax because we have a lot of things to fix. How we played in the second half, it will be difficult. We have to fix it. We cannot let down and play without control. It’s good news but we still have room to improve. I am proud”.
