Vasilije Micic stood out with a 26-point performance against Crvena Zvezda as Anadolu Efes sealed another victory in Round 5 of EuroLeague.

A solid performance in a winning effort allowed Vasilije Micic of Anadolu Efes Istanbul to earn the MVP honor for Round 5 of the regular season. Micic led Efes to an 85-70 home win over Crvena Zvezda mts Belgrade with 26 points on 5-for-8 two-point, 4-for-6 three-point and 4-for-4 free throw shooting. He added 5 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds for a performance index rating of 29, the best in Round 5. Micic’s 26 points was a new career high, a point above the 25 he scored in last season’s semifinals against Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. Following Micic was Alexey Shved of Khimki Moscow Region, who registered a PIR of 28 in his team’s home win against Panathinaikos OPAP Athens. Shved downed a season-high 26 points by making 7 of 8 two-point shots, 2 of 8 threes and 6 of 6 free throws. He also had 7 assists 3 rebounds. Mateusz Ponitka of Zenit St Petersburg came next, with a PIR of 27 in his team’s overtime road win against Zalgiris Kaunas. Ponitka finished the game with 19 points and 7 rebounds. Tonye Jekiri of LDLC ASVEL Villeurbanne and Toko Shengelia of KIROLBET Baskonia Vitoria-Gasteiz, each with a PIR of 25 in the same game, won by ASVEL, completed the top individual performances Round 5.
Individual highs: Nick Calathes, Panathinaikos, 11 assists
Micic and Shved led all Round 5 scorers with their 26 points apiece. Shved tops the overall leaders table at 22.6 points per game. Tarik Black of Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv topped everyone in Round 5 with 15 rebounds in his team’s home win against Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. Nikola Milutinov of Olympiacos Piraeus stays atop the overall standings at 11.6 rebounds per night. Nick Calathes of Panathinaikos OPAP Athens dished 11 assists, leading in this stats category for the second consecutive round. He is also this season’s leader at 9.0 per night. Jacob Wiley of Panathinaikos and Gustavo Ayon of Zenit each collected 4 steals on this round. Ayon has climbed atop the overall standings at 2.3 steals per night. His Zenit teammate Colton Iverson had 4 blocks against Zalgiris. Three players – Ismael Bako of ASVEL, Youssoupha Fall of Baskonia and Bryant Dunston of Efes – share the overall lead in blocks with 1.6 per night. Calathes, with 10 points, had the only double-double in points and assists in round five. Six players had double-doubles in points and rebounds: Maccabi‘s Black (10 and 15), AVEL’s Jekiri (16 points, 11 rebounds), Jeremy Evans of Khimki (10 and 11), Bojan Dubljevic of Valencia Basket (12 and 10 ), Zach LeDay of Zalgiris (12 and 10) and Anthony Randolph of Real Madrid (17 and 10).
