Sarunas Jasikevicius spoke about Barcelona’s quality ahead of Zalgiris‘ Friday clash with the team in Kaunas. The former EuroLeague champion with Barca and currently Zalgiris‘ head coach spoke highly of the visiting squad, praising their quality as adapted by mundodeportivo.com.
“Barcelona has the best squad in Europe. They have unlimited talent and the best players in Europe in each position. Now they have three or four casualties, but even then they have played at a great level”, commented Jasikevicius.
Jasikevicius added that despite the absences of Barcelona, the basic principles for which Svetislav Pesic is known are “discipline, good defense, and physicality – and they’re good at these aspects”. Of course, he is well aware of Pesic’s mentality, as he has firsthand experience with Pesic’s coaching. Back in 2003, he was the starting point guard of Barcelona under Pesic, helping the team win its first EuroLeague title.
Barcelona admittedly has had the boldest offseason moves, including Nikola Mirotic, Alex Abrines, Malcolm Delaney and of course, former Zalgiris big man Brandon Davies, for whom Jasikevicius also spoke highly of.
“He is doing well. His energy is unlimited and he has one more year of experience in Euroleague . He has also been able to rest this summer, so he feels better and more prepared. He was chosen as the best center of Europe last season when he was with us and I think that if he is not the best, he must be among the best three for sure ”
