Virtus Bologna’s return to the Turkish Airlines EuroLeague seems to be only a matter of time

Virtus Bologna can return to the EuroLeague by getting to the final of this season’s 7DAYS EuroCup, however as EuroLeague CEO Jordi Bertomeu admitted in a press conference before the game between AX Armani Exchange Milano and Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, Bologna can hope for something bigger.

As Bertomeu said: “The first possibility is to win the EuroCup. On the long-term license, it is a different matter. It depends on an improvement in the club’s infrastructure, a project they have already started, but within two or three years, it is difficult to achieve this. Like Valencia, the club has the aspiration, stability, and coat of arms to point to this. But you need an arena for sustainable business”.

With Sasa Djordjevic on the bench and Milos Teodosic on the court, Virtus Bologna is EuroLeague material without a doubt and so far enjoys a great season in the EuroCup.

Bertomeu repeated that his vision is a EuroLeague with 16 long-term licenses and two spots allocated via the EuroCup, a model which will help the competition “raise our club standards and the quality of our product.
Our goal is to have a EuroLeague more economically sustainable”.

Bertomeu explained in detail at the start of the season in a similar press conference in Athens the slight changes which should be made in the competition
