Baskonia defeated visiting CSKA Moscow 80-70 after a tough battle in Vitoria and bounced back from its losing streak in Round 9 of EuroLeague.
Tornike Shengelia made sure to keep the home team on top and finished the game with 22 points, five rebounds and three steals across nearly 32 minutes on the court.
Baskonia enjoyed a slight 45-39 advantage while heading to the lockers at halftime, though the second half turned out to be in CSKA’s favor.
The Army team first evened the score at 45 points and kept Baskonia in check during the third period that ended 62-59 on the hosts’ side.
A steal by Shengelia, then a shot by Pierria Henry gave the hosts a three-point advantage with less than three minutes to go. Shengelia came clutch once again to expand this advantage to six points and hand the victory to the Spanish side.
“I hope we will understand what is the path”
CSKA saw Janis Strelnieks and Mike James posting 17 points each and on Friday (Round 10) they travel to Madrid in order to face Real with hopes to bounce back.
On the other hand, Baskonia will host Zenit and look to turn this victory into a streak.
