Barcelona will examine whether Pau Gasol may want to join the team after he was waived by the Portland Trail Blazers, according to Catalan website ESports.
Gasol, who is currently rehabilitating from a left foot injury, has said that he hopes to represent Spain in the 2020 Olympic Games. When the Spanish center recovers he will need minutes to prepare for the Olympics and Barca is willing to provide the player a spot on the roster.
Last summer, Barcelona completed the top blockbuster signing in Europe for 2019, by acquiring Nikola Mirotic.
Gasol began his professional career with Barcelona back in 1998. He spent three seasons with the “Blaugrana” before joining the Memphis Grizzlies to begin his NBA run that resulted in back-to-back (1999, 2000) championship rings with the Los Angeles Lakers and being named an All-Star six times.
Barcelona coach Svetislav Pesic was asked about the report ahead of the EuroLeague game against Maccabi Tel Aviv. “The Pau Gasol comments remind me of when I was coaching Bayern. There was a time when the first question was always about Dirk Nowitzki’s return. And Dirk retired and never came,” Pesic said per Marc Mundet.
