Crvena Zvezda mts hired Dragan Sakota as its new head coach, the Serbian club announced on Saturday.
More than a decade separated from his last job in Serbia, the well-experienced head coach will return to Belgrade for Crvena Zvezda. Back in 2007 he concluded his first stint with the Serbian club, since worked in Italy, Turkey and Greece.
Aside getting back to his home country for a head coaching job after 12 years, Sakota will also make his way back to EuroLeague for the first time in fifteen years. In the 2001-02 and 2002-03 seasons he was AEK’s boss in Europe’s premier competition, while in 2003-04 led Olympiacos.
Back with the Queen in recent years, he added two more head coaching stints with the Greek team and was the club’s sports director up to his move to Crvena Zvezda. Formally occupied similar positions in several teams at the club level, also was the head coach of Serbia and Montenegro in 2006.
The ABA League champions tipped off their 2019-20 season with Milan Tomic, who departed one month ago. They currently carry a 3-7 W-L tally in EuroLeague, are 4-3 in the Adriatic League as well.
