Zenit Saint-Petersburg is prepared to continue with Joan Plaza as the head coach and hire Marko Popovic as sports director, Izvestia reports. The recently retired 37-year-old Croatian played under Plaza at Zalgiris Kaunas during the 2012-13 season.
The 55-year-old Spaniard coach previously refuted reports on him leaving the Russian club with a post on his personal Twitter account.
After taking the helm midway through the 2018-19 season, Plaza experienced a tough start to the 2019-20 season with a 2-9 W-L tally in EuroLeague and 4-5 in VTB United League.
