The Court of Arbitration for Sport, short CAS, will make its ruling on the dispute between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos OPAP stemming from November of 2018. The international quasi-judicial body is set to make its verdict known on Tuesday, per Greek outlet Live Sport.
The 2018-19 EuroLeague Regular Season Round 6 collision of the Greek powerhouses was heated, even more than usual. The Reds claimed that their arch-rivals accused them of attempting to bribe the match referees Miguel Angel Perez, Carmelo Paternico and Jakub Zamojski through a non-paper shared with media outlets. The Crew Chief’s report noted that Panathinaikos OPAP owner Dimitris Giannakopoulos accused the three officials of betting 20.000 euros each on the game.
Euroleague Basketball investigated the matter, but decided to dismiss the case on the alleged bribery because there was no concrete evidence to support the accusations. The Independent Disciplinary Judge previously fined Giannakopoulos for his statements during the contest. Olympiacos followed up taking its complaints to CAS, now awaits the second ruling.
