Panathinaikos coach Rick Pitino characterized Barcelona star forward Nikola Mirotic as an early MVP contender for this season’s EuroLeague, ahead of the game between the two teams Friday (13/12).
Barcelona is one of the strongest teams in the EuroLeague. Great size and experience. Mirotic early MVP candidate,” Pitino tweeted. Mirotic is averaging 19.3 points, 6.8 rebounds, 1.4 steals and 1.2 assists in 27:11 per game in his first season in EuroLeague since 2015.
Panathinaikos is coming off a 4-0 winning streak in EuroLeague, a record that includes 2 out of 2 since Pitino’s return to the club, and is currently 8-4. Barcelona stands at 9-3.
“We are an undersized team that must be strong fundamentally with every phase of the game. Go PAO,” Pitino also wrote on his tweet.
