Euroleague Basketball released a statement and joined the world basketball community in wishing a complete and fast recovery to longtime NBA commissioner David Stern, who underwent emergency surgery for a brain hemorrhage on Thursday, including a few quotes from EuroLeague Chairman and CEO Jordi Bertomeu.
During his stewardship of the NBA for three decades between 1984 and 2014, Mr. Stern, 77, was a monumental force for the growth of basketball’s popularity at a global level, as well as a partner and inspiration to Euroleague Basketball.
“On behalf of Euroleague Basketball, we offer our sincerest best wishes, thoughts and prayers to David Stern, an unprecedented leader for our sport and a personal friend of our organization,” Jordi Bertomeu, President and CEO of Euroleague Basketball, said. “David has been a force for good far beyond the basketball court, as well. We sincerely hope that he will have a full and speedy recovery.”
