It was a decision taken a long time ago and after CSKA’s triumph in the VTB finals, he made it offcial. At his 30 years of age Sasha Kaun is putting an end to his basketball career and he just had his last game as a member of CSKA Moscow.
As said after the game: “This locker was my home for 7 years, my entire pro career. This was my last season. Only thing lacking in these 7 years was Euroleague title. But it’s fate. Hope I won’t be kicking myself for it in future. I want to thank coach Messina for working with me and improving me as a player”.
Kaun is leaving Russia and he plans to return to the States. He grew up in Florida, played college basketball in Kansas and his new destination is expected to be Colorado. His new career has nothing to do with sports and it’s not what you expected to hear for a 7footer! He is a PC engineer and a very talented programmer.
The next big question for CSKA is if Andrei Kirilenko also played his last official basketball game, something he has hinted many times during the season. However an official announcement on the matter is expected during the next month.
