After a new meeting of the Adriatic league clubs in Belgrade last week and a new proposal, finally FIBA announced today that the “new Adriatic league will now proceed with official registration as a legal entity under Croatian law with a legal seat in Zagreb”.
Still the final recognition is expected to be given in the upcoming general assembly. However the gap between and FIBA and Euroleague continues to grow as FIBA Europe announced a “new Eurocup” or if you prefer a “new second European club competition” which will start next season (2015-2016) and will include up to 100 clubs from 40 countries, starting from a qualification round and ending up with a final four.
As for the new Euroleague “FIBA Europe are ready to launch a top club competition with outstanding growth potential. It noted in particular the strong financial support secured by the working group for the sustainability of the new league in the long term and decided to invest FIBA Europe’s own resources alongside those of FIBA into the project. The Board agreed for the Working Group to present the proposal to the clubs and to other stakeholders in order to improve it and launch it as soon as possible”.
