Tyler Dorsey came into our lives and on the “map” of Greek basketball rather suddenly. He was excellent in the World Cup and he deservedly won a spot on the best five of the tournament.
Explosive, unreachable on the open court, good at pressing the ball, mature in his choices and with an excellent technique in shooting, something that is reflected in the 11/21 three-pointers, a 52.4% that he tallied in the World Cup! Together with 15.9 points, 5 rebounds and 1.9 assists on average and also good percentages in two-point field goals (57.1%) and free throws (77%).
The 19-year-old guard spoke to Eurohoops about his unfamiliar and… unexpected experience.
“It was a great experience. Something new that I hadn’t experienced ever before. It was a ‘journey’ that lasted one month and that I’ll remember forever. We didn’t finish the way we would’ve liked in the tournament, but overall we had a good run. Now I’ll go back to the USA and spend some weeks with my family and my friends. When I’ve rested, I’ll start thinking about next season and the challenge that I have before me in college.”
How does he feel that the people embraced him and were impressed by his game? Would he like to be a fixed member of the Men’s national team in the years to come? “It’s something that I haven’t thought of yet. It will be a blessing to compete with the national team and if I’m given the opportunity I’ll definitely try it. I’m not sure yet as to how things are going to develop in my career in the future and if I’m going to be in the position to play for many years with the Men’s team. Time will tell.”
It looks like Tyler Dorsey has the talent to play and get established in the NBA. Surely European clubs would be a great solution as well. How does he look at it? “My dream and my big goal is to play in the NBA, to have a career there. If, for some reason, things don’t turn out the way I want them to, then Europe is definitely an excellent option. There is a lot of talent and top class basketball here.”
He can now play in a Greek club as a Greek citizen and this is a huge advantage in case life turns out in such a way and such an eventuality arises. This is something Tyler is aware of. “Yes, I see that now, with the passport it makes sense that big Greek teams might consider me. You never know how things turn out. To questions like these only… the future can provide an answer!”
