Tony Parker announced Tuesday in Villeurbanne, France, that the “Tony Parker Academy” is expected to open its doors in the 2018-19. Parker, who is also the president of the local team ASVEL since 2014, has big plans.
The Academy will be a complex divided in five structures: a practicing facility for ASVEL, a training center, an educational academy for young players, a referees’ school and also a campus of 400 housing units. The 25% of those units will be used in social housing. The total cost of the project will be 30 million euros, including 4-5 millions for the operation of the Academy which will be open all year long and it will also include a summer league.
Parker clarified that his project “is for the good of French basketball” and will not compete with INSEP, the Paris sports Academy, in which Parker grew up as a player.
