The season started for Panathinaikos with the Greens presenting their new jerseys, honoring the best five players of the last 25 years as voted by fans, beating Partizan 66-56 in a prep game, but most of all creating a legacy for the ages.
Stojan Vrankovic, Dejan Bodiroga, Fragkiskos Alvertis, Antonis Fotsis and Dimitris Diamantidis were the main attraction, but the show was stolen by the former owners of the team, Thanasis and Pavlos Giannakopoulos. Thanasis took the mic and said at the packed gym of OAKA, “When I die, I want to be burried with the flag of Panathinaikos” with the crowd going wild.
As for his brother and father of Dimitris Giannakopoulos, Pavlos, who is considered the man responsible for the building of the Green dynasty, the old gym of the team under the football stadium will be named after him from now on.
In the game that followed Panathinaikos led even by 20 (52-32) and got an easy win which was overshadowed by the injury of guard Lefteris Bochoridis. Sasha Pavlovic with 16 points and James Feldeine with 11 points were the top scorers of the winners.
