In a strange turn of events, Reynaldo Mercedes, one of the referees of the Intercontinental Cup Final, is under investigation by Euroleague and FIBA.
As Euroleague announced: “in light of the news that appeared today following the second game of the Intercontinental Cup, with respect to the publication of comments of a negative connotation towards Real Madrid on the Twitter account of one of the game officials, that it will proceed to request from FIBA an investigation and the pertinent explanations, and if the comments prove true will ask for concrete measures to be taken, as such comments would disqualify any referee from being an impartial official of a basketball game”.
In 2012 Mercedes had tweeted (photo) that he is a fan of Barcelona who doesn’t like Real Madrid and today he was the one who ejected Madrid’s point guard Sergio Rodriguez from the game.
