After winning 5 titles in one season, Real Madrid finally lost the chance to add one more trophy. The “Whites” will not have the chance to defend their Supercopa title after losing to host Unicaja Malaga in the semifinal.
The final score was impressive (94-79) as Unicaja dominated the second half after getting a 46-37 lead in the first 20 minutes of action. Five players of the winners scored in double digits with Will Thomas having 15 points and Richard Hendrix just missing the cut with 9 points. Felipe Reyes (18 p.) and Sergio Rodriguez (16 p.) did the best they could. It was obvious that Real players with half of them playing in the Eurobasket and then traveling to Brazil for the intercontinental cup games were obviously not fresh, while Rudy Fernandez missed the game as also injured Jeffery Taylor did.
Unicaja led by 23 points in the fourth period (77-54),Real cut the lead to 13 points (85-72) with a 10-1 run behind the shooting of Jaycee Carroll (16 p.), but Thomas’ answer was 5 quick points (90-72) and the game was over.
