Cedevita tried its best and during the first half was close to Olympiacos. The Reds, however, had the game under their control in the second half and started the season with an easy 76-61 win.
The Greek champs were punished because their fans entered the court in Game 4 of last season’s quarterfinal against Barcelona, that’s why the game was played in Crete. The man responsible for that invasion because of his big three against the Catalans, Giorgos Printezis, was also the top scorer of Olympiacos against Cedevita with 2o points on 9/11 two pointers. However the really good news for coach Sfairopoulos is that Patric Young had his best game yet with his new team, as he registered 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Vasilis Spanoulis had an off night with 5 points on 1/10 field goals, but he also dished 7 assists.
Jacob Pullen with 18 points and Tomislav Zubcic with 16 were the top scorers of Cedevita which started the game with young Bosnian Dzanan Musa on the court. It’s an interesting side note, since Musa was near a deal with Olympiacos, but he ended up in Zagreb. Olympiacos had just a 38-35 half time lead, but created a distance in the third quarter and never looked back.
