They say that a good start is the half of everything and that was the story in Bamberg. Brose Baskets started the game with a 20-13 first quarter, Darussafaka Dogus couldn’t get back into the game and the German champs got the easy 86-76 win.
Everything clicked for coach Andrea Trinchieri, defense was the name of the game and total control of the tempo. Brose Baskets was leading 36-27 by half time and had a double digits advantage for most of the rest of the game. It was an impressive team effort, illustrated in numbers by the difference of the two teams in assists and turnovers. At the start of the last quarter the hosts were leading by 11 points (67-56) and had 17 assists and 11 turnovers. Dogus Darussafaka had the exact opposite numbers with 17 turnovers and 11 assists. At the end of the game the hosts had 19 assists and 15 turnovers, against 19 turnovers and 16 assists by Dogus.
A three by Janis Strelnieks gave a 16 points lead the Brose Baskets (75-59) and the game was over. Strelnieks finished the game with 13 points, Darius Miller also had 13, Elias Harris and Bradely Wanamaker scored 11 each, Nikos Zisis had 10 and 5 assists, while Nicolo Melli, Lucca Steiger, Daniel Theis added 8 points each. Milko Bjelica had 16 points for the guests while Serhat Cetin, Jamon Gordon and Ender Arslan added 12 points each.
