Crvena Zvezda Telekom Belgrade is still in turmoil and Khimki Moscow Region just didn’t who any kind of pity. The hosts got the blow out 91-53 win over the Serbs who are clearly in trouble.
After a relatively close first quarter in which Khimki had a 22-17 lead, things got out of Zvezda’s control. At half time the lead was 21 points (51-30), at the end of the third, Khimki was up by 32 points (71-39) and the game was over. Zvezda had a disasterous night, shooting just 36% in two pointers, 15% in threes and 52% in free throws and making 23 turnovers. James Augustin with 14 points – and also 5 rebounds and 4 blocks – was the top scorer of the winners who didn’t feel any kind of pressure.
On the contrary, Khimki’s defense, which resulted in 18 steals, didn’t let any breathing space for the Serbs. With the exception of Maik Zirbes who had his usual numbers (15 p., 14 r.), no other player of the guests had a positive game. The final 38 points difference is the biggest for a Khimki’s win in Euroleague on the day that Tyrese Rice became for the second time a father.
