As Yahoo Sports reported first, the Denver Nuggets waived guard Erick Green and re-signed forward Kostas Papanikolaou! The Greek forward was acquired by Denver as part of the trade that sent point guard Ty Lawson to Houston, but was waived at September 25.
Papanikolaou played 43 games with Houston in his rookie season last year and during the last weeks he was expecting a guarantee deal from the NBA, while he was exploring his European options. He is a two times Euroelague winner with Olympiacos Piraeus.
According to sources close to the situation, the Greek forward signed a partially guaranteed contract with the Nuggets. The NBA franshise can still cut him until January, or else keep him until the end of the season. If he gets cut again, Papanikolaou may return to Europe just in time for the Euroleague Top16. f the Nuggets decide to keep him, then Papanikolaou’s deal includes also a team option for the 2016-17 season, which can be used until the 12th of July 2016.
