An 8-0 run in the beginning of the last quarter helped CSKA Moscow beat Maccabi Tel-Aviv 82-88 on the road, as the Israelis are on the brink of elimination. This was the fifth victory for the Russians (5-1), whereas the Israeli’s suffered their fifth loss in group D (1-5).
For the winners, Milos Teodosic was unstoppable with 25 points and five assists, as Nando De Colo added 15. On the other hand, Taylor Rochestie scored 20 points for the losing squad, with three more players being in double digits.
In the beginning, Maccabi took control of the game and was executing well on both ends of the floor. Consequently, they retained a small lead until the end of the first quarter (18-13), but things changed later. The Muscovites found many solutions offensively, scored 25 points and ended the first half in front by just one point (37-38).
In the second half, Zan Tabak’s team took a five-point advantage (49-44), but the Russians responded with a 3-16 run and reversed the situation (53-60). Maccabi, though, came back and was down by two, after 30 minutes in the game (63-65). CSKA started the last quarter with an 8-0 run and took a 10-point lead (63-73). The Israeli team tried to respond, but Dimitris Itoudis’ players remained solid, retained a double-digit advantage and claimed a crucial win on the road, whereas Maccabi is now a step away from elimination.
