The next meeting between FIBA, the federations and the teams which may be interested in competing in the new “Champions League” is scheduled for the 10th of December and the duo of Unicaja Malaga and Panathinaikos are considered the two favorites to join the new league.
FIBA hopes to lure teams which have not signed with Euroleague a ten year deal. Panathinaikos is the only team which still is on the fence, however the troubled relationship between the Greeks and the Euroleague management makes the possibility of the club chosing FIBA more than possible. The same applies to Unicaja Malaga, which recently lost its A license status and was not offered a ten year deal. Also the French clubs are expected to play in the league of FIBA.
However Euroleague has already the support of Anadolu Efes Istanbul, CSKA Moscow, EA7 Emporio Armani Milan, FC Barcelona Lassa, Fenerbahce Istanbul, Laboral Kutxa Vitoria Gasteiz, Maccabi FOX Tel Aviv, Olympiacos Piraeus, Real Madrid and Zalgiris Kaunas.
