It’s almost unthinkable but Real Madrid has the worst defense in Euroleague as the numbers are proving. The problem of the champs is more than obvious and the numbers are crystal clear!
Real has let 603 points in seven games with Dinamo Banco Di Sardegna Sassari being a close second worst with 600 points. The Italians are the only team which doesn’t have a win yet, however those two are the only teams which have reached the 600 points milestone.
The offensive talent of Real makes the difference and keepts the total goal average just at -12, but it’s obvious that is not enough. The opponents of Real score 86 ppg and the best case scenario for the Spaniards so far is for their opponents to score at least 70 points! Their best defensive performance was registered in their home win against Crvena Zvezda with the final score being 98-71.
The 2-5 record and the 603 points made by opponents are negative records both for Real and for every champions since the 2008-09 season, when the four groups format was used for the first time in the regular season. On the left column of the table you see Real’s records during those seasons and on the right the numbers of each season’s defending champions.
