Unicaja Malaga playmaker Stefan Markovic is set to be sidelined for three months due to a leg injury, the club announced Monday night. Markovic was hurt while fighting for a rebound in a Spanish League game against Eurocup side CAI Zaragoza. He was diagnosed with a fractured fibula causing acute instability in his ankle. He underwent surgery in Malaga on Monday and is set to miss the majority of the Top 16. Markovic is averaging 3.6 points and a team-best 4.9 assists in 10 Euroleague regular season games this season.
Israeli point guard Gal Mekel who is released from Crvena Zvezda is negotiating a deal with the Spanish club in order to replace the Serbian guard.
