“Copa Del Rey” started with an upset, as Dominion Bilbao Basket got the big 73-72 win over Barcelona and a thrilling ending.
With the game on the line, Barcelona’s center Ante Tomic was fouled by Tautvydas Slezas and according to the referees it was unsportsmanlike, or flagrant if you prefere, foul. Bilbao had a 73-71 lead, there were 3.2 seconds on the clock, but Tomic made 1/2 free throws and in the time which was left Barcelona couldn’t attempt a shot on time.
Barcelona was one of the main contenders for the title, but now their quest for the “Copa Del Rey” ended without glory. Alex Ruoff had 18 points for the winners, Axel Hervelle added 15 points and Alex Mumbru had 12. Brad Oleson with 14 points was the top scorer of Barcelona and the man who cut the lead of Bilbao to 73-71 with a three in the last seconds.
