A major upset in Bandirma brought a change to the top of the ranking in the Turkish Basketball Super League. With Banvit’s grand victory over Fenerbahce, Anadolu Efes is now enjoying a sweet solitude at the peak of the standings.

By outrebounding their opponents and putting on an intense defensive effort in the second half, Banvit (12-8) achieved one of its greatest wins in the season so far. Fenerbahce (15-5) was in control during the first half, being ahead of the score even with 12 points, 30 – 42 in the mid of the second period.

The hosts began their comeback by allowing only 10 points in the third quarter, which helped them tie the score, 55 – 55. Banvit used its newly found momentum in the best possible way, dropping consecutive three-pointers to take a lead of 9, 74 – 65 with less than 4 minutes to go. While Fenerbahce brought an expected reaction which could have made them win, one key defense in the end by coach Ernak’s players, sealed the fate of the game to their favor.

Anadolu Efes (16-4) said “thank you very much” to Banvit, since they had already got the job done on the road, winning Pinar Karsiyaka (12-8). The team from Istanbul bounced back to good results after a home defeat in Euroleague and thanks a record breaking performance by Cedi Osman, managed to outmaneuver their opponents.

In the meantime, Galatasaray (14-6) used its diverse offensive strength in order to win Usak Sportif. Coach Ataman’s team remains third just below Fenerbahce.

Thirteenth (!) in the standings table Yesilgiresun (7-13) was responsible for a surprise that made a “bang”, defeating Darussafaka Dogus (12-8). There is now a three-way tie at the fourth place of the standings among Banvit, Pinar Karsiyaka and Darussafaka.
