Not a pretty day to be a hosting team in the French Pro A. In today’s eight games, all visiting teams beat their opponents away from home and some of them elevated higher in the rankings.
The view from top is still enjoyed by Strasbourg (18-6) that defeated Antibes (11-13) perhaps more difficult than expected. At least considering how the game had evolved in the second quarter, when Vincent Collet’s players had gotten a lead of 18, 23-41.
But the hosts fought back and gradually decreased the deficit enough to become threatening. When arch-veteran Willie Solomon made it 71 – 76 fo Antibes with three minutes to go, everything was up for grabs. But Louis Campbell answered with four consecutive points and things took their course in Strasbourg’s favor.
Playing a solid defensive game, Monaco (17-7) forced Rouen (5-19) to an extremely poor shooting and a really low scoring output, in order continue chasing Strasbourg from close distance. The Cup holders weren’t exactly impressive themselves, but managed to make six turnovers less than their opponents, thus gaining some extra possessions that proved to be crucial.
Villeurbanne (16-8) also took quite the victory by beating Nanterre (15-9) thanks to an fantastically potent all around game by Charles Kahudi and now wait for Monday’s game between Nancy and Orthez to find out if they will remain alone in the third place. Meanwhile, Limoges (12-12) controlled the rebounds and the rhythm of the game against Cholet (9-15) to make its second win in a row.
In the last game of the Week, Orthez (16-8)also celebrated on the road, beating Nancy and climbing in the third place of the standings, tied with Villeurbanne.
