Mega Leks achieved a small miracle by advancing to the ABA League finals for the first time ever in the history of the club. The Serbians beat Buducnost 76 – 75 and made it 2-0 in the semifinal series. Absolutely sensational for a team with an incredibly young roster, since its players have an age average of 19.8 years!
Yet what the players of the Mega Leks lack in experience, they own it in double quantity when it comes to talent, ambition and basketball skills. Two players that possess all these three elements in large dozes, Timothe Luwawu (17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks) and Rade Zagorac (14 points) were the protagonists in this highly memorable night for their team.
But the one who put his signature in end for Mega Leks, was no other than the… “grandpa” among his teammates. 22-year old Danilo Nikolic, oldest player in the roster, had 2/2 from the free throw line making the score 76-75, nine seconds before the end. Buducnost’s players did not find target in the next play and watched as their opponents celebrated the qualification to the finals.
The Montenegrin team threw away plenty of chances to finish the game earlier, by losing a fair number of wide open shots, especially from behind the arc, in the last minute of the game. Tadija Dragisevic finished the match with 20 points and 6 rebounds for Buducnost that had completed the regular season of ABA as first in the standings but fell victim of… the youth gone wild spirit of Mega Leks.
