While nothing changed at the peak of the standings in the Greek Basket League, some certain surprising results give new interest to the battle for the playoffs, and not only.
Olympiacos (22-1) and Panathinaikos (22 – 1) finished their obligations against their opponents without facing any serious problem. The Reds allowed…. zero, yes zero, points during the third quarter of the game with Kifissia (10 – 13) to dominate in what was practically a warm-up for their crucial Euroleague match versus Real Madrid. Meanwhile, although Koroivos (7-16) was shooting blazes from behind the arc (14/24), Panathinaikos performed well enough to subdue its guests, with one brilliant performance by James Feldeine.
In Crete, Rethymno (11-12) stunned AEK (16-7), causing them to lose more ground in the standings and reducing their hopes to finish third at the end of the regular season. Coach Zdovc’s players once again fell short on closing the game properly, scoring only 10 points in the last period, while receiving 18. This result allowed Aris (18-5) to increase its distance from AEK, after defeating Apollon (9-14) on the road.
First division “newbie”, Lavrio (8-15) achieved perhaps the biggest victory in the history of the club, by beating PAOK (10-13) on the road now and can feel a lot safer their fight to avoid relegation.
